Acoustic effect and correlated errors in soliton information transmission.

چکیده
The acoustic effect signif icantly increases the timing jitter of solitons in communication lines. We calculate the correlation in near-neighbor soliton time shifts that result from the acoustic interaction and show that the acoustic effect can cause correlated errors that cannot be corrected with standard, simple error-correction codes such as the Hamming code.

A Line Coding Scheme for Reducing Timing Jitter in Wdm Soliton Systems
INTRODUCTION: In WDM soliton systems, the main sources of timing jitter (TJ) include the Gordon-Haus (GH) effect, soliton-soliton collisions (SSC), the acoustic effect, and the polarization mode dispersion. Although TJ from the GH effect is random from pulse to pulse, other sources lead to nonrandom TJ. Because the time displacements from the nonrandom sources highly depend on the pattern of tr...
متن کاملNonlinear Soliton Interaction with Acoustic Signals: Focusing Effects
The problem of nonlinear interaction of solitary wave packets with acoustic signals has been intensively studied in recent years. A key goal is to explain the observed transmission loss of shallowwater propagating signals, which has been found to be strongly time-dependent, anisotropic, and sometimes exhibited unexpected attenuation vs. frequency. Much of the existing literature considers the p...
متن کاملEffect of Thermocline Formation on Underwater Acoustic Waves Propagation in Persian Gulf
Thermocline layer have remarkable effects on acoustic propagation in Persian Gulf environment. So far, no comprehensive research has been conducted to explore thermocline layer, especially its characteristics including top, thickness, and thermal gradient of thermocline in Persian Gulf. Besides, effects of thermocline on underwater acoustic propagation including transmission loss and sound chan...

We introduce a signal processing approach to compensate for the timing jitter produced by the acoustic effect in soliton communications. The other main sources of timing jitter, the Gordon–Haus effect and the polarization effect, are inherently stochastic. By contrast, the acoustic effect is deterministic and becomes the dominant source of bit error rates in standard soliton systems when the bi...
